Throggs Neck, NY – The Privateer men’s swim team took home its first win of the season last night when they faced off against the Bearcats of Baruch College. Maritime finished with a score of 106-75 and had seven first place finishes out of eleven events.
Sophomore Brent May (Sayville, NY/Sayville) picked up two wins first in the 1000 free (12:26.22) and then later in 500 Free (6:29.01). The Privateers also won both the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay as they just dominated the pool in this competition. Team Captain Joseph McHattie (Dania Beach, FL/South Broward) had nabbed first place in the 100 fly with a time of 59.23, scorching the Baruch swimmer, who finished at 1:24.67.
On the women’s side of things, Maritime was simply out-manned, yet they still fought hard and picked up six second place finishes while Baruch had more than one girl racing in most events. Junior
Cheryl Driscoll (Los Alamos, NM/Los Alamos) (Los Alamos, NM/Los Alamos) came only 18 tenths of a second shy of taking first in the 100 breast. The Privateers also held their own in both relay events, only losing by a short margin.
The Privateers will be home again on Saturday January 22nd when they host Old Westbury and Saint Joseph’s Patchogue in a tri-meet at 2pm.
